Proposed COBRA Regulation Changes

2009 could potentially be a very important year for the COBRA industry. Expansions of the COBRA law are already highlighting President Obama’s Health Care Reform Plan.

Part of the proposed changes include:

  • $30.3 billion to extend health insurance coverage to the unemployed.
  • Subsidizing the first 12 months of COBRA coverage for eligible persons.

For continuing coverage on these proposed regulations, please visit
http://blog.travisoft.com/2009/1/28/economic-stimulus-plan-cobra-changes.

Travis Software will be closely monitoring these proposed changes as part of our commitment to keeping both WebCOBRA and TravisCobra up-to-date with any amendments passed to the COBRA law.

WebCOBRA 9 is Online Now!

Travis Developers and Operations personnel have come up with a new way to deliver new features for the WebCOBRA.com system, on a continual basis. This means, that instead of receiving a large, sometimes seasonal, release every few months, you will instead see a new feature added to the system every week or two.

WebCOBRA 9 began its continual release in December 2008, and has already added several new features to the system, which include:

To stay updated on the new features that have been added to WebCOBRA 9, please visit the Travis Blog, where details of each new feature will be detailed.

  • Relational API Robot: This AI feature will allow you to auto-download the Relational API on a daily basis.

For more information on these Automation Robots, please contact Travis Sales at 281-496-3737.

Five-Cent Increase in 2009 Mileage Rate

In November 2009, the IRS announced that the standard mileage rate for use of an automobile to obtain medical care will be 24 cents per mile for 2009, a five-cent increase from 2008. The same increased rate will also apply for use of an automobile as part of a move where the expenses are deductible under Code Section 217, which allows you to claim transportation costs for medical care if it's over a certain distance.

For more information on this increase, please visit: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=200505,00.html.

IRS Increases Pension Plan Limits for 2009

In October 2009, the IRS announced increased Pension Plan limits for 2009. Section 415 of the Internal Revenue Code provides for dollar limitations on benefits and contributions under qualified retirement plans. It also requires that the Commissioner annually adjust these limits for cost of living increases.

Many of the pension plan limitations will change for 2009 because the increase in the cost-of-living index met the statutory thresholds that trigger their adjustment. However, for others, the limitation will remain unchanged. For more information on this increase, please visit: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=187833,00.html
